2016 Summer Conference: The Great Legacy

Content

The History of Redemption series itself is the greatest legacy. It was the source for the 18 lectures and services that took place during the four-night, five-day conference. The Word of redemptive history that was given to us at the summer conference was constantly repeated and further intensified.

System

Looking back, all the songs of redemptive history were precious tools?a system?that allowed us to understand the history of redemption. If we had not memorized the years of the Bible through the songs, we would have had a much more difficult time grasping the flow of redemptive history. Rev. Abraham Park himself composed the songs and had everyone, from the children to the elderly, memorize it all. If the author himself had not done this, who would have? This is truly a precious legacy.

Also, difficult training had taken place in order for the conference attendees to become accustomed to and accept the “ceaseless Bible studies” during the four-night, five-day schedule. This was an important system that allowed the summer conference to become the “Feast of Booths.”

Environment

The water at Yeoju Pyungkang Cheil Retreat Center is the key component that makes life in the “wilderness” possible. The bedrock mineral water that is 300 meters underground is painstakingly maintained to be used plentifully for thousands of people. Rev. Abraham Park, who directed the retreat center construction, drew up water by digging 300 meters down through rock beds in a land where there was no flowing water. There are prayer sites in numerous places around the retreat center, allowing its attendees to focus on the core of the summer conference, which is absolute concentration on the Word and prayer. This land is literally the “land God selected, a good and spacious land” for the saints of Pyungkang.

Memories

The reason why we are able to confess, “Blessed book, precious book, on thy dear old tear-stained leaves I love to look,” is because our faith is made firm in the memories of the love of our mothers that passed down her faith to us. In many places and aspects, Yeoju Pyungkang Cheil Retreat Center and the summer conference is a representative place that makes us look back at the memories with Rev. Abraham Park, who passed down his faith to us. This memory clarifies God’s love for us and what it took for the history of redemption to come to us. It allows us to love the Bible more and more. A lecturer expressed his deep regrets in not reading the History of Redemption series seven times, as Rev. Abraham Park advised, saying it would have allowed him to commune with the author regarding the heart and the will of God inside the books. In that aspect, the newly founded Prayer Garden reminds us of his words of advice, demands, reproaches and consolations, strengthening the memories of the legacy he left behind.

Model and Example

Rev. Abraham Park’s life of “Only Jesus” and “Only the Word” is becoming a clear model and example of the walk of faith that the younger generations need to follow. To follow his example is to inherit his redemptive history-centered faith. One does not set Luther and Calvin as objects of worship when believing in Lutheranism and Calvinism; it is an expression of the will to follow their reformed faith.

Duty in Succession and Transmission

The legacy left behind by Rev. Abraham Park allows us to understand our duty in succession and transmission. The organization of what it took “for the history of redemption to come to us,” starting the preservation of the handwritten manuscripts and publishing the history of redemption series comic books is all a method of succession. During the Pyungkang Day & Book Launching Service, Doctor Na Yong-Hwa, the former president of Reformed Graduate University said he was deeply moved when Rev. Abraham Park said “I found the important Word, ate it with gladness and it became my joy” during their first meeting, saying it allowed him to understand how much Rev. Abraham Park loved the Word and found joy in it. He also mentioned that he saw those things passed on even to the children of Pyungkang Cheil Church, and emphasized that the passing down of faith is allowing the future generations to dwell in that gladness and joy.

The 2016 summer conference was a conference that allowed us to look back at what it took “for the Word of redemptive history to come to us,” and at the history of the “eagle that carries us on its wings(Exodus 19:4)” and the “eagle that tests us(Deuteronomy 32:11).”
