Where is the eye that reads the face of "history and today, that day" ?

"Remember the days of old, Consider the years of all generations. Ask your father, and he will inform you, Your elders, and they will tell you" (Deuteronomy 32:7).

"The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law" (Deuteronomy 29:29).

"The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear (pure), your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. "Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness. "If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays" (Luke 11:34-36).

"to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me" (Acts 26:18).

"Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked" (Revelation 3:17).

The summer has passed. Brethren who will inherit the Kingdom! Have you fared well through the summer heat and monsoon rain?
Have you awoken with the seed of the Word?
Autumn has arrived. The seed of the Word is the eye of the generation. There is the saying to "pass a sleepless night" but it is the eye of the seeds of the Word that must pass the night of history and receive the first ray of light of the new generation.
Jesus taught this through the beautiful parable of the five prudent and five foolish virgins awaiting the bridegroom.
He was a man of joy within hope, but on the other hand He was a man of sorrow. He could only be a man of sorrow because He was the eye that was alert and open in passing a sleepless night. His heart always ached in yearning to see the eyes of the virgin seeds of life sparkling with love and creation.
Imagine the overflowing sorrow when He asked, "What did you go out into the wilderness to see?" (Matthew 11:6-7)
Jesus said, "We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn." He is like a mother who weeps as she looks upon her children who lie comatose and unresponsive regardless of how many times they are shaken (Matthew 11:16-19, Luke 7:31-35).
"Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation" He said and though He Himself was dripping blood and sweat in prayer, His heart could not help but stop to check on the eyelids heavy with slumber (Matthew 11:16-19, Luke 22:39-46). How could such a heart be described?
Yet, He proclaimed, "Hey, lift up your eyes and look on the fields. They are ripe and white for harvest. You say that there are yet four months left before harvest, but look. Autumn is upon us and the fields await the sickle" (John 4:35-36). There overflows confidence and joy of hope.
He an alert eye that was awake. The Seed among the seeds of the Word. Therefore, He calls God His Father and personally called Himself the Son of Man.
Only the loving heart can pass night with watchful eyes, and only the watchful eyes that pass night can, with a light of sorrow, nourish and raise the seeds. At times, unable to hold His patience any longer, He would erupt in reproach and anger.
He said, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out. And when you see a south wind blowing, you say, ‘It will be a hot day,’ and it turns out that way. You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why do you not analyze this present time? And why do you not even on your own initiative judge what is right?" (Luke 12:54-57)
However, what we must surely remember is that He had already known the generation fully well. Thus, though He cried, it was not out of despair. Though He rebuked, it was not out of hate. This is why He was able to save the world.
What does it mean to save the world? It means to play the role of the owner of history.
The seed is the eye of history. If the seeds are awake, the generation lives. However, if the seeds are unable to awaken, they are like the foolish virgins holding an unlit lamp having failed to prepare any oil. They can only be extinguished from history.
How can one know the face of the heavens and the earth? It is due to faith. It is in running forward in faith and experiencing. Minute experiences become memories but truly great experiences that become the foundation cannot be explained. It is in the mysterious strength that flows from the bottom-most root of life. The story of Noah avoiding the flood and becoming the forefather of mankind's restoration teaches this. Put in religious terms it is the revelation of God, but revelations do not come to the heart that lies in slumber. You must be awake, you must have a heart that waits with open eyes to hear the voice of mystery. This is why he cries out, "You hypocrites!" and rebukes in saying, "Why can't you discern the approaching face of the generation?" This is why all seeds have become like marbles. This is an alert and awake attitude.
In calling the "god of life", Tagore said, "He is coming, coming, now he is coming." With the same meaning Jesus said, "like a thief in the night He will come." Because He comes like a thief we must wait with open eyes.
The first revelation the young prophet Jeremiah received upon going out to the fields in early spring was that of the rod of the almond tree (it has risen!). Though aware of the ridiculous conditions of his nation and his young age, he was able to rise up like a cast iron pillar and prophecy regarding the world because of his faith of "God is ever awake!" He was a man of sorrow. This is why he was called the prophet of tears. However, this man if tears was the single thin line which saved the history of Israel.
This is why in 1980, from September 8 through 12, four nights and five days, 720 of our seeds of the Word went to Mount Jangan which lies in Koemong-ni, Gyenammyeon of Jangsu county in North Jeolla province. They fought with the harsh winds and rain (typhoon 'Orchid')
as they fasted and prayed through the night for the nation and people. They shed many tears as they prayed to be an alert eye, as a result their prayers were answered and they returned as living spirits.
The south winds are blowing even today. If you are a wise seed of the Word then you would know that hidden behind the south wind is extreme heat. Last winter seemed unusually warm. The flowers have bloomed here and there next to the sunny mountainside. It may be warm but it is not spring. The flowers cannot bloom correctly. If we allow such flowers to bloom, when spring truly comes we will be like the virgin who expends all her oil on other things and cannot greet her groom; the day on which we are thrown out where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth surely awaits us. Though we wait we mustn't become anxious. The seeds of the Word must not be thirsty for fame. If there exists a heart that yearns to show off self, that seed of the Word throws himself out from the order.

The south winds that blow may certainly seem to bring spring but it is a dreadful thing that drains from within and later causes crying during the eternal winter. If not that, then it is a dreadful thing that brings a storm that completely wipes out the seeds of life. It is the seeds of the Word that knows this. The seed of history is like the round fruit of the tree that can receive the wind and sun of the sky with its entire body at any time. It is the seed of the Word that has nothing. It only has life. Thus it can read the face of the generation.
The seeds of vanity that sprouted in the unusually warm days of winter will be destroyed. The seeds who are listless and only sleep despite the proximity of spring will also be destroyed. Only the seeds who are alert and focused can see the coming generation.
Go out to the fields. Isn't it great? It is a time the diligent farmer is filled with excitement. It may seem that the entire field has become harsh and rough but this is appropriate to receive the judgment of history. It will now perish and become the fertilizer that nourishes us.
Reach out your hand and touch the heart of the earth. It seemed to have frozen to death in the arctic winter but that is not so. With the ice it is now ready to receive our plowshare. It has been softened and humbled.
When this generation has completed its duties like the ferocious winters and is forced to the north, that earth now awaits to receive our shining plowshare. We are the seeds of the Word but we are also the plowshares. We till our hearts with our own hands and we also plant our seeds with our own hands, the seed of the Word received from heaven.

The final verse of Jesus' Word aforementioned is important. He proclaimed, "And why do you not even on your own initiative judge what is right?" (Luke 12:57) The people's mentality to judge between right and wrong is fading away and this is because they do not know how to read the face of the generation. Though they have eyes they are like the blind who cannot see (Jeremiah 5:21).
It is as if they have forgotten to prepare the plowshare thinking that winter would never pass. Only the sharp plowshare can till the coarse earth. Similarly, only the unyielding spirit of criticism can call forth the new generation.
It is fine to stay indoors if you believe it isn't the time to sow the seeds. However, the plowshare must be sharpened.
Heaven and hell exists within you. Separate mercilessly what is useful and not. Autumn has come once again. It is the autumn of judgment in which you reap exactly what you have sown. After winter spring will return again.
When we dig our brilliant plowshares deep within the heart of history without mercy, even the cuckoo bird sitting atop the branches will sing a song.
Seeds of the Word, read Revelations 22:18-19, 20:15.
