“After all, heresy accusations all start for the money.”
As soon as the reporter asked what first caused the heresy accusations on Rev. Park Yoon-Sik, the senior pastor emeritus of Pyungkang Cheil church, Rev. Kim Man-Kyu immedi-ately began his words as if he had been waiting. He said that many heresy evaluators ask for money, and he strongly criticized their materialism and their bribery-based evaluation.



Rev. Kim, the chairman of CCK’s special committee on heresy evaluation, has observed the misunderstandings, slanders, and distortion of the truth over more than thirty years. Let us listen to what has to say in his testimony below.

Rev. Park first met “the heresy evaluator,” the late Tak Myung-Hwan, through Rev. Kang Shin-Myung at a revival assembly. Rev. Park gave donations to Tak over several years to support him in eradicating heresy. However, after Tak announced that the Unification Church is not heretical, Rev. Park told Tak that he could no longer support him. When his continuous demands for support were turned down, Tak published an article under the title of “Rev. Park Yoon-Sik, is he a heretic?” in the journal The Modern Religion, of which he was the publisher.

This article published in February of 1983 was the beginning of the thirty-year-long heresy accusations against Rev. Park. Later, Rev. Choi Sam-Kyung, who is from the same town as Tak, was promoted as the publisher of The Modern Religion and continued the slanders under Tak’s command. They spread false rumors such as, “Rev. Park is from the Jeondok-wan (a heretical sect in Korea)” and “He is not a disabled veteran and has never partici-pated in the Korean War.” They tried every possible means to accuse Rev. Park. They even fabricated a picture and published it under a title, “intimate time with a church woman,”
in The Modern Religion. They also conspired with professors from Chongshin Seminary. To stir up the students at Chongshin Seminary, they planned to circulate materials with groundless accusations that Rev. Park is a heretic and that he is trying to create a cult town in Oryu-dong.
Because of their exclusivity in the field of heresy evaluation, they even received the title as “heresy evaluators” for many decades as they continuously made false accusations and agitated people. As a result, their false rumors began to influence the religious circles in general.
Many presbyteries of the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church in Korea (Tonghap) petitioned for an announcement on the result of the committee’s heresy evaluation on Rev.

Park. At the announcement, Rev. Choi accused Rev. Park of heresy based on the fabricated articles written by him. The people in the scene were carried along without any evidence and denounced Rev. Park as a heretic.
 
Chongshin Seminary professors subcategorized Rev. Choi’s one-sided claim on Rev. Park’s heresy into ten articles. Based on this, the General Assembly of Presbyterian Church in Korea (Hopdong) approved “an urgent motion regarding the dismissal and dissolution of Pyungkang Cheil Church,” even before addressing it at the general assembly. Since then, heresy fabrication progressed smoothly. Without any objective investigation or interview with the party concerned, they came to the decision that was equivalent to a “death sen-tence” for a pastor.

However, CCK and its religious bodies denounced Rev. Choi?who had been wielding absolute power?as “the most heinous heretic.” Just this alone proves how preposterous their “heresy evaluation” had been. Finally, on December 17, 2013, by God’s redemptive-historical administration, their false claims and fabrications for the past thirty years were fully exposed to the world.

 
Throughout the interview, Rev. Kim Man-Kyu testified the entire process in detail with a great conviction.
He said, “Apostle Paul was called ‘a ringleader of the Nazarene sect’ (Acts 24:5). The word ‘sect’ is hairesis in Greek and it means ‘different.’ Certainly, Rev. Park Yoon-Sik is differ-ent from Tak Myung-Hwan and Choi Sam-Kyung. He is different from those who are blinded by worldly material, and dismiss and distort the truth. Above all, he is different from those who deviate from the Bible and do not follow it. The self-claimed ‘heresy evalu-ators’ are no different from the heretics themselves, and I am confident that their ends will be different from ours on the day of final judgment.”
