The Power to Overcome Destruction is God-given Conscience

As spring, summer, and early autumn pass, vegetation produce various grains and fruit with the light received during that short time. It does not question the good or evil of men and becomes their precious nourishment. And it retains the seed of life within itself to allow it to thrive eternally. It is truly amazing in our eyes.
And this is the moment when we realize that life is originally true and eternal. Now is the time when our souls once again give thanks and praise with a loud shout to God, the origin of life, for His goodness and truthfulness.
All creation is so good and beautiful in the harmony and order of its original state. However, only men, who are the supreme creation, yield a fruitless world by losing the path of their life and carelessly wasting life. Their deceit, evil, and greed have reached the heavens and their madness of murder and lust has filled the heavens and earth.
The reality of corrupt mankind is that there isn’t even an ounce of refreshing air that we can inhale to revive our spirit and soul. Where is the path that will break through this chaotic and void darkness and allow us to rise up to the world of eternal light and order?
As we are standing near the end of the autumn of 1990, at the twilight of this year, let us again inscribe this one thing on our hearts: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).
It’s time we must look back once more at the place where men dwell and pay attention to the actual image of life which we are shaping. We shall no longe waste life. Though we may not know what day or time it will be, it is certain that the end of the fixed time that God has granted us is drawing near for each and every one of us.

Today, the heart of mankind is as desolate as it gets.
Global village is in the vortex of countless regional warfare including the war in Iraq; every nation grows rampant with mass violence, obscenity, and murder; and this country has reached the point of declaring a war against crimes.
The great current of the east and west’s d?tente has finally accomplished the unification of Germany. That current has flowed to the Korean peninsula and, for the first time since the division, there was a meeting between the Prime Minister of South Korea and the Chairman of North Korea. Yet, what we ultimately witnessed from such close proximity of unification was the astounding reality of the North Korea’s closed-door policy.
Every North Korean citizen believes that South Korea took third place and North Korea took second place overall in the previous Asian Games. When a female employee at the Baek-hwa-won Welcome Center was asked to summarize the ideology of “juche” (or self-reliance ideology), she stated with enthusiasm, “There are shadows under the rays of the sun, but under the rays of our father, the great leader, there is no shadow.” Seeing her response, I cannot but ask why, of all places, the society established by our own kinsmen under the northern horizon had to be the world’s most closed-off group, shut up in the abyss of idolatry?
As the Defense Security Command’s civilian investigation incident has stirred up our society, we get the sense how open we are, compared to the reclusiveness of North Korean society. Still, in seeing the incompetence of the politicians and their undiscerning eyes blinded by party interests, I cannot help but think that, this incident is more than a problem of politicians or soldiers; it is a manifestation of our lives in which our conscience and senses have become severely diseased.
From some time ago, people no longer ask the meaning or value of what they do; they have put their conscience completely to sleep and live blindly. Such manner of life is what’s been displayed through the Defense Security Command’s incident.

It is the same even within the family or workplace.
In the absence of values and authority, people merely gather to indulge in eating, drinking and having fun.
Having completely averted themselves from heart to heart discussions and the sharing of consciences, people hate to affect each other’s emotions even in the slightest way and thus live in complete severance. No one cares whether someone dies or goes insane. Not a trace of an inspiration of love or justice can be found. Society has become such a valley of skeletons where dry bones roll about.
Jesus said, “To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children who sit in the market place and call to one another, and they say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep” (Luke 7:31-32). Just as Jesus lamented, it seems that the hearts of mankind have lost its intellect, emotion and righteousness from the original state of creation; they have become hardened like cast iron.
The entire air, land, and the waters are dreadfully polluted. Unceasing wars, famines, and earthquakes fill this earth. Ever since the world became divided into blocs, great economic warfare and hunger crisis threaten mankind. But, what is thousands of times more frightful is the reality that the hearts of men are transforming into those of beasts.
Among the visions which Prophet Daniel received from God regarding the end times was the scene of “the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea. And four great beasts were coming up from the sea” (Daniel 7:2-3). And it states that “these great beasts, which are four in number, are four kings” (Daniel 7:17).
The world awarded Gorbachev with the Nobel Peace Prize. In actuality, however, nowhere in this world can peace be found.
No system reformation and organizational changes can bring true peace to a society of mankind where the hearts of men have become a completely barren wasteland.
In order to save mankind, our country, family, neighbors, and ourselves, we must make haste now in the movement of seeking “one man.” We must find that one man who holds the conscience in the original state of creation?the one who will risk one’s own life to firmly guard the original heart of man created in goodness by God.
We cannot illuminate this nation and mankind’s society with people who have no light in themselves. Such men are filled with darkness, and yet they blame their neighbors, society, systems, organizations or whatever else that seems weaker than they are. “And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit” (Matthew 15:14).
There are those who deny the potential of the absolutely good and conscientious men under their own justification of the institutional barriers and system restraints.
They display themselves as the righteous by publicly slandering and criticizing other people’s flaws and sins. They discuss the progress of the country while disguising their greed and deceit lurking within them. Such men are dust and dirt.
We must know that “The LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples” (Psalm 33:10) and that “. . . the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales; Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust” (Isaiah 40:15). “The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation” (Psalm 33:11) and “every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted” (Matthew 15:13).
Let us look at this man. “Now when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open toward Jerusalem); and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously” (Daniel 6:10).
His nation had become subjects of Persia and a decree was established against him by a wicked men’s scheme: “anyone who makes a petition to any god or man besides you, O king, for thirty days, shall be cast into the lions’ den” (Daniel 6:7).
King Darius signed the document, thus establishing the statute. Yet, in such a situation, the prophet Daniel worshipped and gave thanks to God alone.
Furthermore, Daniel’s three friends refused to bow to an idol, and as they were about to be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire they said, “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up” (Daniel 3:17-18).
A man who believes in God’s providence of absolute sovereignty and fully obeys God’s law of life, the law of the Holy Spirit, is the true vital force that can ultimately shine light upon this society. Man and country cannot be saved with the laws of the world. The laws of the world are humanitarian yet relative, natural yet dark, sensible yet lack conscience, and ethical yet caught in the restraints of sin and death. Anyone who calls himself righteous using these standards is nothing more than an empty shell of life.

No matter how dark the reality of this earth and how chaotic the state of this nation may be, hope abounds in Jesus Christ and in the absolute faith in the living God’s good sovereign providence and His mighty hands. This is because within God’s law of the Holy Spirit of life, “at evening time there will be light” (Zechariah 14:7) and “where sin increased, grace abounded all the more” (Romans 5:20).
As it is stated, “unless the LORD of hosts had left us a few survivors, we would be like Sodom, we would be like Gomorrah” (Isaiah 1:9), God has likewise kept our lives because He still loves us and cares for us. It is because we have in us the faith in the seed of God’s unilateral and absolute love?Jesus Christ the eternal life (Romans 9:29). The identity of this “few survivors” who had overcome this sinful world is our faith that believes in the Word in the beginning (John 1:1-4, 1 John 5:4). The tree stump remains even if the entire world is engulfed in flames and the terebinth and oak are cut down; and “the holy seed is its stump” (Isaiah 6:13).
We have partaken in this Holy seed, that is, the spirit and life within the Words of Jesus Christ (John 6:63). Hence we must rise up believing that we are the stumps of life who will save our country and make mankind eternal.
God says, “Yet even now . . .return to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, weeping, and mourning” (Joel 2:12), and “Rend your heart and not your garments. Now return to the LORD your God” (Joel 2:13, Jeremiah 4:4). Man is deceitful. Only God is true (Romans 3:4).
The only way for our entire nation and mankind to be revived in the light as true men and enjoy true freedom and peace is not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit of God (Zechariah 4:6).
Now that we have received the grace of redemption through the cross of Jesus Christ, may the fruit of our lives become the light to guide all men to appeal to God for a good conscience. This is the sole power in overcoming the great destruction that faces the human race today.
